Artist/designer/educator/researcher with a passion for innovation strategy, systems thinking, and human-centered design. I seek to inspire people to bring ideas to life.  


I am a hybrid professional, or rather a boundary crosser, who is talented at connecting the disconnected.  My ability to perceive opportunities, interpret user needs, and apply creative thinking makes me a master of execution at all levels.

I’m constantly contemplating:

“What do users need?  How can we improve the user experience to bring more value, ease, and delight to our processes and services? What analogs exists that we can borrow from to solve our challenges?"

I see life as one big design challenge.

Currently, I am the Director of a new initiative at the University of Colorado Boulder.  The intention of this initiative is to engage and expose all stakeholders to entrepreneurial and innovative experiences on or off campus. This work is under the Research & Innovation Office, and it allows me to be the ultimate connector of dots.

My background is a zigzagging, windy, loopy de loop of artistic and educational pursuits that are only starting to make sense now.  Previously, I was the Innovation Program Manager in the imaginarium (the innovation lab) at Denver Public Schools.  My role was to build capacity and hack roadblocks to allow innovation and design thinking to spread across the system.  Prior to that, I worked at the University of Denver, Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Francis Parker School, Colorado Mountain College, and The Island School, interspersed with lots of side projects in community building and youth empowerment.

My research focus is on the notion of hybrid professionals- people who have multiple professional identities. As someone who is comfortable in both creative and analytical spaces, I find that I can easily foster the translation of ideas among art, design, education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. My ability to blend knowledge across disciplines enables me to check assumptions and make connections that often go unnoticed.  As a result, I am talented at helping groups bend, break, and negotiate conventions to construct new solutions to old problems.

My professional aim is to inspire others through creative methodologies, and my personal aim is to transform educational and institutional paradigms in order to disrupt accepted forms of knowledge, access, privilege, and power. I attempt to achieve my aims through teaching, leading, mentoring, and studying existing and historical models.

Things that light me up are trail running with my sidekick schnauzer, skiing powder on bluebird days, swirling paint with my paintbrush, dabbling in the digital darkroom, designing wearables, staring at sparkly objects, and spending time exploring my neighborhood or the world.
